Muslim man who was attacked with acid wants to know why it's not labelled a terror attack

Image
A Muslim man who was left with life-changing injuries following an acid attack in east London has demanded to know why the assault is not being treated as terrorism. Jameel Muhktar had to be put in a coma for two days after a man threw acid at him and his cousin Resham Khan through a car window as they sat at traffic lights in Beckton “If this was an Asian guy like myself, going up to an English couple in a car and acid attacking them, I know for a fact and the whole country knows that it would be classed as a terror attack,” he told Channel 4 News. “It's definitely a hate crime. I believe it's something to do with Islamophobia. Maybe he's got it in for Muslims because of the things that have been going on lately. "I don't know if people are trying to retaliate. We're innocent people. We didn't deserve that. I've never seen this guy in my life. “I don't have any problems with anybody. My cousin is 21, she's a business...

Bronx shooting: Gunman dies after shooting multiple people at New York Hospital

Image
A disgruntled former employee of a New York City hospital who opened fire and killed at least one while injuring at least five others, has died after turning the gun on himself. The gunman reportedly began to open fire with an assault-style rifle just before 3 p.m. local time, according to the New York City Police Department. Police indicated that the suspect had entered wearing a white lab coat which was used to conceal the rifle. Officials indicated that the gun may have been an AR-15, which is a common assault-style weapon used in mass shootings. "We’ve had a real tragedy here in the Bronx this afternoon, it’s something we’ve seen around the country. Now, we've experienced it here," New York Mayor Bill De Blasio said during a press conference outside of the hospital. "This was a horrific situation unfolding in the middle of a place that people associate with care and comfort. A situation that came out of nowhere. But, even in the midst of thi...

South African Govt approves export of 800 lion skeletons to Asia

Image
The South African government through the environmental affairs department has approved the legal exportation of 800 skeletons of captive-bred lions to Asia this year, the government said Wednesday , meeting demand for the bones in parts of Asia while critics believe the policy threatens Africa's wild lions. According to the department in a statement, the lion bone quota meets international guidelines on wildlife trade and that its impact on wild lions is being assessed. It says it worries that a ban on the legal lion bone trade could lead to the illegal killing of wild lions for their bones. "South Africa reiterates its concern that if the trade in bones originating from captive-bred lions is prohibited, lion bones may be sourced illegally from wild lion populations," the department said. Although some conservationists are not happy with the deal as they believe the legal trade may be fueling demand for bones, whether from captive-bred or wild l...

Deputy White House Press secretary defends Trump's tweets saying he has to fight fire with fire because he is being bullied by liberals

Image
President Trump has been receiving plenty of stick from even republican party members for his mean tweets against MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough. Deputy White House Press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders has come out in fierce defense of her boss with the excuse that he is being bullied and has to put up a fight. Speaking on Fox News Channel she said: 'This is a president who fights fire with fire and certainly will not be allowed to be bullied by a liberal media and the liberal elites within the media or Hollywood or anywhere else.' She made a similar claim when confronted by reporters in the White House briefing room Thursday afternoon. 'Look, the American people elected a fighter,' she said. 'They didn't elect somebody to sit back and do nothing.' 'They knew what they were getting when they voted for Donald Trump and he won overwhelmingly.'

In a recent interview with W Magazine, Nicole said the shocking sex scenes left her with bruises and she felt "humiliated" after filming.  Her co-star Alexander Skarsgård also disclosed in a different interview that shooting the scenes took a toll on him and his co-star and they developed a coping mechanism that required checking up on each other off set.             Speaking to W about the effect the scenes had on her, Nicole said: "I was just lying there, naked in half-torn underwear. I remember lying on the floor in t...

Image
A public car park in East Belfast has been unofficially closed to the public, as preparations are made for a bonfire.   The bonfire site at a car park on Ravenscroft Avenue, just off the Upper Newtownards Road, is a short distance from a site where council staff removed pallets and put them into council owned storage three months ago. Speaking to BBC Newsline on Wednesday night, one of the bonfire makers, who was not named, said: "We had an agreement with the council, that they were going to store the pallets in a safe place. And now, because the agreement was broke [sic], we just thought, 'well, they've let us down, so we'll let them ones down." A car-park in east Belfast has been closed to the public by people building bonfires. The public car-park is just off... Graffiti painted on a wall at the car park reads: "Betrayed by the council". Real Madrid ace Gareth Bale pulls off incredible trick shot at luxury golf club in Bahamas

It appears Gareth Bale's sport skills extend further than just football. The Real Madrid ace took to Instagram to show off his incredible golf tekkers, as presented by Dugout . Bale can be seen throwing a golf ball in the air before connecting with it like a baseball bat. Given the size of a golf ball and the head of the driver, this is an incredibly difficult skill to perform. However, the trick shot is no problem for the Welshman who crunches his drive hundreds of yards into the distance. Academy Awards continues diversity push by naming Gal Gadot, Riz Ahmed and Dwayne Johnson as members

Image
Gal Gadot, Riz Ahmed, Leslie Jones, Naomie Harris, Rami Malek, Priyanka Chopra and Dwayne Johnson have all been invited to join the Oscars' governing body as part of its continuing diversity push. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and its outgoing president Cheryl Boone Isaacs have been committed to doubling its diverse and female members by 2020 in response to the #OscarsSoWhite debate over the last two years. AMPAS has continued working towards that goal by inviting a record 744 new members — up sharply from 683 last year and 322 in 2015. The 2017 class includes stars from massive comic book movie blockbusters (Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Margot Robbie, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans) to comedy favourites (Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph and Kate McKinnon), some Star Wars titans (Adam Driver and Domhnall Gleeson) and even huge stars you'd probably assumed were already in — like Betty White, Channing Tatum, Jon Hamm, Shailene Woodley ...

Disney World is seriously adding Donald Trump to one of its attractions

Image
Disney World is the most magical place on earth. This is pretty much a fact. Though now there's going to be a new attraction dedicated to Donald Trump, and it's safe to say it isn't going down very well. The Hall of Presidents opened when the Florida park did back in 1971, so it's not solely about the current US president. He'll just be slotting into the next spot. It's not a terrifying rollercoaster, either. It's actually a sit-down presentation show featuring audio versions of presidents making speeches as you go through. Disney revealed on its blog that President Trump will have a speaking role in the attraction, something that had been reported as not happening. "Despite some media reports to the contrary, President Trump will have a speaking role in The Hall of Presidents, like every president since 1993," the studio said. "We have been working closely with the current White House — just as we have with prev...

Donald Trump's tiny, tiny watch is a TERRIFYING thing to behold

Image
The President of the United States, for better or for worse, serves as a physical emblem of his country. So to a certain degree, his style holds some consequence. In his 1993 Washington Post column, 'Noted With Disdain', Gene Weingarten lamented President Bill Clinton's lacklustre, 20-quid digital watch: No one disputes that the most powerful man on Earth should be free to wear whatever he wishes, but we should not confuse freedom with licence. If Bill Clinton began arriving at state dinners in bare feet and bib overalls, stock prices would edge uneasily down. The president need not be impeccably tailored, but a certain dignity is expected. So what's with that, that... toaster on his wrist? We're with Weingarten here, and we thank stand-up comedian Joe Mande for bringing everyone's attention to Trump's latest faux pas: a terrible gold watch with a horrifyingly tight band. Looks painful, doesn't it? Watches are meant to compleme...

The winners and losers of Google’s $2.7 billion fine from Europe

Image
Google was hit today with  record fines of €2.4 billion ($2.7 billion)  from the European Union for allegedly abusing its market power by favoring its shopping service over other comparison sites. The search giant has 90 days to change its product to comply with EU antitrust rules. But an appeal seems likely: Google has already assigned a law firm to the case and has stated it  disagrees with the ruling . At first glance, this ruling is a win for Google’s price-comparison site competitors that complained some seven years ago. Thirty companies have filed complaints,  19 of which are included in the formal case , according to a Reuters report. Here’s a look at the other winners and losers of the decision. Winners: Google’s competitors The ruling sets a precedent for other competitors within maps, travel and other sectors to potentially launch their own complaints. The bulk of Google’s revenue comes from search, which funds the company’s other services. Bu...

Google hit with record $2.7BN fine

Image
The European Commission has hit Google with a record $2.72 billion fine for antitrust violations Google has today been hit with a $2.72 billion fine by the European Commission (EC) for abusing its search engine power in promoting its own shopping comparison service – putting them to the top of the results search. This is commonly known as an anti-trust penalty, and is the largest of its kind. Indeed, this case is so severe that the amount fined is more than double the previous record – the $1.2 billion charged to Intel in 2009. In addition to the fine, Google was also ordered to end the practice – of what the EC views as anti-competitive behaviour – within 90 days or face additional financial penalties. “Google has come up with many innovative products and services that have made a difference to our lives. That’s a good thing,” Margrethe Vestager, the EC commissioner in charge of competition policy, said in a statement. This fine could have been more. The ...
