Man Utd told to secure deals for Alvaro Morata and Fabinho by Steve Nicol

The Liverpool legend isn’t convinced a raid for Barcelona defender Jordi Alba is on the cards, though.

United have already splashed the cash this summer.

They coughed up £31m to sign Victor Lindelof from Benfica.

And Nicol thinks Morata and Fabinho could also be arriving at Old Trafford soon.

"Absolutely it's a no-brainer," Nicol said on ESPN FC regarding Morata’s touted arrival from Real.

"It's a position they need and they're going to get somebody who in my opinion could become world class, he's not too far off it.

"He's young, so he's going to be there for a long time. If you're a United fan, you're hoping this happens and I think eventually it will."

Fabinho helped Monaco to the Ligue 1 glory last season.

Nicol believes the versatile star will bring a different mentality to United.

"I'd have to say he goes ahead of the majority of their players in the middle of the park," Nicol added.

"He's coming from a team in Monaco who have a winning mentality, the guy has quality.

"Mourinho obviously knows him from Real Madrid, so for me he walks into the side. I'm not sure other than Paul Pogba who is ahead of him, so I think this is a no-brainer again.

"I think this guy is a great player and again, he's bringing a winning mentality from Monaco and I think that's the one thing that's missing for United.

However, Nicol says a raid for Alba would be less realistic given United’s current standing among Europe’s elite clubs.

"If there's any chance of this happening, I would say yes (it's a no-brainer)," he said.

"But I don't see why Jordi Alba would leave Barcelona to go to Man United. If it was all about the history of the club then yes, it's a possibility.

"But the fact is right now, Barcelona are streets ahead of Manchester United.

"If you're Jordi Alba, why are you leaving a team in Barcelona, let's face it, win regardless and have a real shot at winning the Champions League next season before a ball is kicked.

"I don't see this happening, it would be a great signing, a no-brainer if United can make it happen, but it isn't going to."
