Barcelona clear path for Man Utd to sign £44m target

Manchester United’s path to sign Nelson Semedo has been cleared after Barcelona refused to meet Benfica’s asking price for the right-back, according to reports in Portugal.

O Jogo claims that the Barcelona view the Portugal international as an alternative to their priority target, Hector Bellerin, but are not willing to pay Benfica’s €50 million (£44m) valuation.

Earlier this week, Mundo Deportivo reported that United had submitted a €35m (£30.8m) offer for Semedo and claimed that the Portguese champions are in a hurry to sell the 23-year-old.

United have already done business with Benfica this month after signing Victor Lindelof in a deal that could rise up to £40m with add-ons.

And now Semedo could be their second summer signing from Benfica if Barcelona continue to deem the defender too expensive.

The defensive overhaul at Old Trafford is set to continue after Matteo Darmian was linked with an exit on Friday.
