New US Citizens Receive Welcome Letter Signed By Pres. Barack Obama
A twitter user whose husband just became a US citizen shared the mistake U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) made on the welcome letter given to new US citizens. In the welcome letter, the new citizens were congratulated by former US president Barack Obama's signature instead of current US president, Donald Trump's. She tweeted: "My British-born husband takes his oath of citizenship today. In the packet for new Americans, the welcome letter from POTUS is from Obama". According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, roughly 200 of these letters have been sent out due to an administration error. A total of 300,000 applications for citizenship have been approved since Trump's inauguration. Consequently, USCIS press secretary Gillian Christensen has called the mistake an administrative oversight.
